CHICO — Witches, skeletons, mimes and more were already haunting downtown Chico in the hour before Treat Street officially started on Friday.

Costumed families had already found their parking spaces and roamed the streets, shopping or grabbing a bite to eat, before businesses began handing out candy to the little ones. Many of the businesses went all out on themes for their storefronts. Mas Amor put up Dia de los Muertos decorations and dressed up to match the theme while La Salles put out haunted house decor.

Treat Street is an annual event put on by the Downtown Chico Business Association and serves a safe means for young children to trick-or-treat while also supporting local businesses.

The event ran from 2 to 5 p.m. on Halloween.
