Northern Colorado organizations and businesses have rallied to support thousands of Larimer County residents who are on the verge of losing federal food assistance in November as the government shutdown stretches on.
About 615,000 Coloradans, including 34,000 Larimer County residents, rely on benefits from SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, according to the Food Bank for Larimer County .
Funding for SNAP benefits is due to run out Nov. 1, but federal judges ruled Oct. 31 that these benefits must be funded despite the continued government shutdown.
With continued uncertainty about November's SNAP benefits, the Food Bank for Larimer County is gearing up for increased need, and some local businesses are offering free or discounted food to help those in need.
