Brian Kelly’s firing at LSU with a $54-million buyout is old news. When I walked out of Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge last week after LSU’s embarrassing 49-25 loss to Texas A&M, you could hear the disconnect and outright anger toward Kelly. He had to go. The experts have all given reasons why it didn’t work out, but here it was correctly predicted years ago that this was a horrendous hire (10 years and $95 million) when Kelly was introduced as the LSU head coach.

The only thing surprising was that he lasted this long (3½ years). Winning big, which never happened, would have only temporarily delayed his ultimate fate.
