NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The 26th annual contest to find the best un-recorded song and lyrics just closed October 31.

The contest is held every year by the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), a nonprofit organization that mentors artists as they try to make it in the music industry.

The contest awards thousands of dollars in prizes to the winners of the song category and lyric category. The winner of the best song category also receives a one-year, one-song publishing deal with BMG Music .

“This [industry] is a roller coaster, and it’s tough,” says Bart Herbison, Executive Director for NSAI. “If you don’t get a song in the Top 10 on commercial radio, there’s very little compensation.”
