RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- North Carolina State Representative, Cecil Brockman , who is facing sex crime charges with a child, has resigned from the General Assembly.

Brockman was arrested by the SBI earlier this month for allegedly having an intimate relationship with a minor who is under the age of 15.

Eyewitness News learned today a committee was finalized to explore Brockman's expulsion, but also learned Brockman voluntarily resigned.

Brockman was a Democrat serving his sixth term.
