ALTOONA, Pa. (WTAJ) -- The Altoona Water Authority has levied a fine against the Allegheny Township Volunteer Fire Department for unauthorized use of a hydrant and "theft" of service.

The fire department was accused of using a hydrant to replenish residents' wells on two occasions, once on Aug. 2, with 1,000 gallons of water. The other was the next day, Aug. 3, with 400 gallons of water.

According to a letter received by the department from the firm that serves as the water authority's solicitor, this isn't the first time the issue has occurred. In the letter, the department is reminded of a previous incident in which they were penalized $500, which was paid within 30 days.
