Taylor Urquhart went to school the morning after Game 4 of the 1992 World Series and saw a photo of himself wearing a “La Bat” foam hat sprawled across the Toronto Star.

For 33 years, he has kept the headgear — which was sponsored by the newspaper and given away at Game 3 — as well as the decades-old rally towel and the newspaper clipping, waiting for a special moment to break them all out.

“Splurged for tickets,” Urquhart said, explaining that it cost him $10,000 to come back to the World Series. “They’re going to win tonight because I can’t do this again tomorrow.”

Ten years ago, the last time Urquhart went to a Jays game, he found out that his Dad had died.

He drove from Niagara for Friday’s game hoping to change that memory.

“Tickets will be worth it if they win, 100 per cent.”
