BOISE — Open up the sparkling grape juice because the city of Boise celebrated the groundbreaking of the city's first new public pool in 27 years, just beside Boise School District's Whitney Elementary School.
The future site of Whitney Pool, next to Whitney Elementary School at 1609 S. Owyhee St., sits in south-central Boise about two miles north of the airport. The pool will open to the public in the summer of 2027.
The approximate $9.6 million project will take about a year to complete, according to Doug Holloway, the city of Boise's Parks and Recreation director. But its opening is supposed to coincide with the end of the Boise School District calendar year in early June 2027.
There were a lot of young students in attendance on Thursday to watch Boise Mayor Lauren McLean, Holloway,
