Four persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in an online hotel booking scam, police said on Friday. The accused allegedly duped scores of people through fake websites, they said.

The arrests have brought under scanner over 100 counterfeit hotel websites. Police said that according to 132 complaints lodged across the country, people have been duped of a total of over Rs 1 crore.

Police probe began after a complaint was filed by one Shashank Raizada, who reported being duped of Rs 68,000 while attempting to book a stay at JW Marriott in Chandigarh , in August this year. The victim had made the payment on what appeared to be a legitimate hotel website, only to discover later that the portal was fake.
