New Delhi: Forty-eight migrant workers from Jharkhand are stuck in Tunisia, are forced to work for long hours without pay and are struggling to fulfill their basic needs. The workers say they were sent to Tunisia by a Delhi based private firm and now desperately want to return home.
According to a report by PTI, the Jharkhand Labour Department has managed to contact the stuck workers. They have confirmed their difficult situation and expressed a strong desire to come back to India. “We spoke to the migrant workers and are verifying their documents. We are also in touch with the Indian Embassy officials in Tunisia to arrange their safe return,” said Shikha Lakra, team leader of the Migrant Control Cell under the Jharkhand Labour Department.
