SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - The parents of a Sumter County boy hurt in an accidental shooting earlier this month have been formally charged.

Jimmy Epps and Kaja Singleton turned themselves in on Friday and are each charged with unlawful conduct toward a child. Both appeared before a judge after being taken into custody, where they were each granted a $10,000 bond.

“This is every parent’s worst nightmare, just as it is a nightmare for my clients,” said their attorney Justin Kata. “I know right now they just thank God that their child is going to be okay.”

Records show Epps and Singleton were booked at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center after their arrests.
