HIAWATHA, Iowa (KCRG) - Governor Kim Reynolds announced Iowa will provide interim support to HACAP and the state’s five other regional food banks starting Saturday as food pantries across the state report increased demand.

HACAP supplies food for hundreds of food pantries in eastern Iowa. Food pantries across the state say they’re already seeing more people come in for food as SNAP benefits come to an end.

Though HACAP says it’s getting more donations, it also says it’s not enough to fill the gap.

“It’s been a wonderful, wonderful feeling to see that initial response,” said Aron Brecht, HACAP’s community food systems manager.
