Another game following an open date is at hand for the Maryland football team. Circumstances in this instance are far more severe than when the Terrapins last played with an extra week to prepare — and not simply because Saturday’s homecoming opponent is second-ranked Indiana.

Last time, Maryland had opened the season with four straight wins, including a first in program history at Wisconsin’s Camp Randall Stadium, providing at least a glimmer of hope that this year finally could fulfill pronouncements from coach Michael Locksley that his team was capable of contending in the Big Ten.
