Young women should avoid enlisting in the Army, according to the mother of a teenage soldier who died by suicide following sexual assault by a senior officer.
Leighann McCready argued that the military had failed to adequately safeguard recruits after her daughter Jaysley Beck was discovered dead in her accommodation at Larkhill Camp, Wiltshire, in 2021.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme, she stated: "Evidence has shown through our own daughter that the protection is not there.
"And until policies are properly changed, I wouldn't recommend anybody joining the Army because they protect themselves and not the soldiers, and that's what happened to our daughter, Jaysley.
