There was something else in the air on Halloween night other than spooky scenes and kids gobbling candy, as Iowa wrestling secured a second commitment on Oct. 31 with U17 World bronze medalist David Calkins.
Calkins, who is from the state of California, has a special talent in Greco-Roman wrestling. He's a Greco-Roman 16U national champion and two-time finalist at the event based in Fargo, North Dakota. He also went 4-1 at the U17 World Championships at 92 kilograms (roughly 203 pounds) this past summer in Greece to secure some hardware in Greco-Roman as well. Even more impressive, he outscored opponents there 30-8 on his path to a medal.
