Will the federal Liberal government fall and an election be called over this coming week’s budget? No.
No party other than the Liberals stands to benefit from a snap election call. The Liberals would simply blame the other parties for forcing another campaign so soon after the last one, then call on voters to establish some stability by giving them a majority.
That message would likely work.
The Conservatives might be encouraged by their recent polling that shows them statistically tied with the governing Liberals. And they might be tempted by the fact that although U.S. President Donald Trump and his trade war against Canada would still figure prominently in another campaign, it would not be the only issue the way it was in April.
