PEORIA, Ill. – The city of Peoria is now the owner of the Expo Gardens property.

The property’s deed transfers to Peoria’s possession Saturday after winning the foreclosed land in an auction for more than $1.2 million in late-September.

The city is planning to redevelop the property into housing. City Manager Patrick Urich tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” that it will be a little while before finished homes go up.

“You’ll have some demolition work that would have to be done, and then you’re going to have a plan laid out. So it’ll be a couple years before you see a home in the ground,” Urich said.

Urich says the next step is to create a request for qualifications for developers, with Urich saying more than one developer could be involved in the building of homes.
