The dream is over.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ hopes of playing in a hometown Grey Cup crashed and burned in a roller-coaster, 42-33 loss in Montreal on Saturday, a defeat that showed a little bit of everything the Bombers were this season.
One thing they didn’t show all year – a willingness to talk about what it would mean to reach this particular Grey Cup – came out in the post-game comments of quarterback Zach Collaros.
“Play for that in our home stadium, trust me, it’s something that we talked about every single day for the last 12 months,” Collaros told CJOB radio. “That’s what makes this so hard.”
“It is very disappointing,” Willie Jefferson added. “This is a very resilient team, a veteran-led team. A lot of guys are used to making it to the Grey Cup… but things change.”
