A political fault line between Essex County and the City of Windsor may be growing over the handling of social housing in the region.

And it could widen into a full schism if the province decides to split up responsibility for social housing into two separate bodies as it’s said to be considering.

Essex County passed a motion Oct. 15 asking the city’s social housing service manager to appear before county council. The city has not yet responded to Essex County’s request because information has not yet been received, Dana Paladino, the city’s acting commissioner of human and health services, said Friday.

Essex Mayor Sherry Bondy said the city uses a “housing-first” approach to helping the homeless, even though some require supportive services.
