Once a year, Mexican families welcome back the souls of the departed for a vibrant celebration on Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.
On Saturday, WindsorEats food hall transformed into a colourful, music-filled party honouring the beautiful tradition. Families, couples and friends gathered for food, drink, dancing and cultural activities, while remembering loved ones who have passed.
“Some people don’t even know what Day of the Dead is, right?” said Victoria Rubio, co-founder of Ix’utzil Latin Fusion Dance Group.
“And it’s a really big deal,” said Rubio, whose group provided much of the entertainment Saturday afternoon.
“It’s a reminder to our families that the dead people that we love, we can still hold them alive in our memory.”
