Trailing Hendricken’s Colby Flynn by a few feet heading into the last turn at the 2025 RIIL Boys Cross Country State Championships, the Portsmouth senior made a decision that changed everything. Flynn went inside, Gray went outside and took the advantage when it allowed him to slide inside down the homestretch. He emptied the tank and, with Flynn in hot pursuit, had just enough left to cross the finish line in 15:16.10, good for a .41 win and his first individual state title.
