MILTON, Mass. —
Emergency food drives, like those at First Parish in Milton, Massachusetts, are popping up all over the country in response to the need created after the government plunged into a shutdown in early October.
The Massachusetts-based organization Bridge Forward pulled the event together in response to the need created by the government shutdown.
“We thought if benefits are not going to come in, and paychecks are not going to be coming in for those furloughed workers, there's something that we can do - we should step up and see,” said Bridge Forward CEO and founder, Luisa Pena Lyons. “We just never thought that the response would be this big.”
There hasn't only been a response from those in need, but from those who wanted to donate everything from canned goods and gift car
