The Youngstown State football team dropped a close game 38-30 to top-ranked North Dakota State at the Fargodome Saturday.

Quarterback Beau Brungard went 19-of-30 for 203 yards and one passing touchdown. He also carried the ball 15 times for 50 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

At halftime, YSU trailed by eight. On its first possession of the second half, the Penguins kicked a 42-yard field goal to cut the deficit to 28-23. NDSU scored on its next drive to take a 35-23 lead with 6:22 remaining in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, YSU took advantage of a Preston Zandier interception to stay in the game. With 13:54 left in the game, Brungard scored on a two-yard run to make it a 35-30 contest.

With 6:20 left, the Bison kicked a short 21-yard field goal to make the contest 38-30.
