The Michigan Democratic Party has produced a video mocking GOP Senate candidate Mike Rogers for mispronouncing “Lapeer” in his recent campaign video. Rogers says “Lah-peer” instead of “Luh-peer.”

The mocking video features Democratic Senate candidates Haley Stevens, Mallory McMorrow, and Abdul El-Sayed, along with gubernatorial candidate Garlin Gilchrist II and several Lapeer residents, all correcting the pronunciation. There is both a Lapeer city and a Lapeer County.

“Hey Mike, maybe that’s how you say it in Florida, but in Michigan we call it Lapeer,” said Congresswoman Stevens in the video.

Democrats are trying to portray Rogers as a Florida resident who is out of touch with the state. Rogers bought a 4,700-square-foot home in Cape Coral, Florida
