TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) -- A four-legged member of the Taylorville Police Department will soon receive a bullet- and stab-proof vest, thanks to a charitable donation.

Kane the K9's new vest is coming from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. The Taylorville Police Department said Kane's vest was sponsored by Louri Christie of Chandler, AZ. It'll be embroidered with the words “Born to Love-Trained to Serve-Loyal Always,” and is expected to arrive within 10 weeks.

Kane has worked for the department for about a year and a half. His new protection costs $1,800, weighs between four to five pounds, and comes with a five-year warranty, the Taylorville Police Department said in a post on Facebook.
