Utah ranks as one of the nation's most energy-efficient states, according to a new report from personal finance website WalletHub.

The Beehive State placed seventh overall in the analysis, which compared 48 states, excluding Alaska and Hawaii, across various measures of home and vehicle energy consumption.

Utah ranked fifth in home energy use and ninth in vehicle-fuel efficiency, the study noted.

Analysts said there are many financial benefits to improving efficiency, as the average American household spends more than $5,100 annually on utilities and motor fuel combined. This projection comes as the U.S. Energy Information Administration forecasts that renewable energy will supply 26% of the nation’s electricity by 2026.
