LAKE CITY, Fla. — A woman was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in the Columbia County jail Sunday evening, the sheriff's office announced, marking the second inmate death at the facility this week.

According to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, deputies were alerted about the woman's condition by other inmates at around 5:07 p.m. She had been found in her bed, located in general population.

CCSO said life-saving measures were immediately administered by deputies and continued until paramedics arrived. They pronounced her deceased less than 20 minutes later.

Initial information reportedly did not suggest foul play, a CCSO spokesperson said.
