There were few positives for Middlesbrough to take from their defeat at Watford, but Riley McGree’s return to action was one.
McGree played the final 21 minutes at Vicarage Road as Rob Edwards made all five changes at once. He described it as ‘throwing the kitchen sink at it’ as he switched to a wide 4-2-2-2 formation, with the Australian coming on as a midfielder. It was his first appearance of the season.
Asked about it afterwards, Edwards said: “It was a real positive to see him back on the pitch. He's worked hard for that. We chucked the kitchen sink at it at that stage. At 2-0 I'm thinking we don't have to change too much here, but then the third goal went in.
