One of the enduring images from India’s ICC Women’s World Cup title winning celebrations will be that of a wheelchair-bound Pratika Rawal celebrating the triumph with her teammates. The young opener hurt her ankle in India’s final league match of the tournament following which she was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament.

Rawal was one of the most consistent Indian batters in the lead up to the world cup and during the event, she again stepped up hitting two centuries and a half-century in six innings before an unfortunate injury while fielding against Bangladesh ended her dream run.

She was replaced by Shafali Verma at the last moment who went on to play a key role in India’s 52-run win over South Africa in the final.
