The official announcement of the inevitable came Sunday afternoon, the day after the worst Saturday night in Jordan-Hare Stadium in memory. In an action louder than its words, Auburn admitted hiring Hugh Freeze was a mistake by firing him after 34 games, after the most humiliating of his increasingly embarrassing 19 defeats.

Freeze didn’t deserve the job the day it was gifted to him. He didn’t do the job he was handed in a panic after a far superior Ole Miss coach declined. He didn’t deserve to play another 18 holes on Auburn’s dime.
