The Alberta government has chosen to cancel provincial exams in January in response to the recent teachers’ strike.
Due to lost instructional time, students will not be required to take the January 2026 diploma exams or the Grade 9 Provincial Achievement tests.
The cancellation will not affect any student’s ability to apply to, be accepted by or attend post-secondary institutions.
Students will have the option to write the exams in April or June of next year, but will receive their school-awarded mark regardless.
This ensures there is no impact on their ability to graduate or transition into post-secondary programs.
