RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) -- Volunteers in the Black Hills have been working on improving water cleanliness, providing healthier vegetation, and helping nurture the wildlife living in the Black Hills.
Across the Black Hills, there are over 100 of these beaver dams that have been patched up over the past few years.
"These are beaver dam analogs, and really what we're looking at behind me is a historic beaver dam, that we've taken natural materials that we've pulled from on site, and we've started to close them up and slow water down behind them. To be able to keep more water on the landscape for longer," Black Hills Watershed Collaborative Representative Chris Stover said.
Without these efforts, water pushes through landscapes, depriving vegetation throughout the Black Hills.
