SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Drivers in the northeast Valley received some welcome news Monday. The Loop 101 widening project in Scottsdale reached a big milestone.

The Arizona Department of Transportation announced that a new northbound Loop 101 lane between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive has opened.

This news is part of an ongoing $108 million improvement project, and it's taken a major step forward.

According to ADOT, there are now four general-purpose lanes and a high-occupancy vehicle lane open along northbound Loop 101 between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive/Pima Road.

A new southbound lane in the area is also set to be opened after some work is completed during some scheduled work on Nov. 7-10.

Officials said the project that started in 2023 is set to end by early 2026.
