Stephen Colbert is reacting to the theory that The Late Show with Stephen Colbert got axed by CBS in a political move.

For some backstory: in July 2025, Trump sued CBS’ parent company and claimed that 60 Minutes had edited an interview with Kamala Harris in a misleading way. Paramount settled the case for a reported $16 million. Just days later, Stephen Colbert mocked the payout on his late night talk show and called it “a big fat bribe.” Within days of his statement, CBS announced the show’s cancellation.

The timing led to widespread speculation that the decision was politically motivated.
