As he walks the halls of St. John Henry Newman Catholic Secondary with his buddies, there’s nothing to suggest he’s anything but one of the guys. Just another Grade 12 student on his way to gym class.
Except now and then, a younger kid will stop him to ask for a selfie or even an autograph.
Does that feel a bit weird?
“Yeah,” Matthew Schaefer smiles. “It does.”
He always tries to put them at ease after signing or posing by telling them he’s just another student. There’s no need to treat him special. He’s no different than them.
It’s a kind gesture. But he is a little different.
