LANSINGBURGH - In his first season as head coach of the Schalmont girls' soccer team, Maurizio Cassano inherited a team that lost seven starters and had won five straight sectional titles.
The top-seeded Sabres were able to extend their streak to six and get Cassano his first title as coach with a 1-0 win over second-seeded Broadalbin-Perth in the Section 2 Class A championship game Saturday at Lansingburgh High School. It was the team's third straight Class A crown after winning three consecutive Class B titles.
