A Kitchener man is facing criminal charges after police say he climbed the fence at the Grand Valley Institution for Women on Sunday evening.

According to Waterloo Regional police, officers responded to reports of a break-and-enter at the correctional facility on Homer Watson Boulevard at around 8:30 p.m. on Nov. 2.

Police said their investigation determined a male suspect had climbed the fence to gain access to the yard and, once inside, assaulted two victims who reported minor injuries.

A 28-year-old Kitchener man has been charged with two counts of assault and one count each of break and enter and mischief under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing.
