CHARLESTON — The city is working to demolish a building on King Street after its roof collapsed on Oct. 31.
City officials hope for demolition of the vacant building at 1001 King Street next to Rodney Scott’s BBQ to begin the next day or two, according to Ken Granata, the city’s chief building officer.
The gable roof trusses — the structural framework that provides support for it — collapsed due to high termite rot damage that pushed out part of the second-story wall, Granata said. He added the roof has collapsed for two-thirds of the front of the building as a result, which destabilized the second-floor walls.
