Construction’s begun on an eagerly-anticipated conveyance project linking two popular suburbs and the Fernleigh Track.
Lake Macquarie City mayor Adam Shultz and Charlestown MP Jodie Harrison turned the first sod on a $2.2 million section of the Charlestown to Whitebridge Transport Infrastructure Corridor upgrade at Flaggy Creek on Monday 3 November.
It’ll include about 175m of shared path, split cyclist and pedestrian offerings, and boardwalk between Milson Street and Kaleen Street.
The milestone marks the official start of plans for a larger 2.7km route (stages 1 and 2), which aims to connect Charlestown to the Lake Macquarie active transport network.
Transport for NSW (TfNSW) provided $1.83 million under the Get Active NSW program, while council is contributing $370,000.
