Following the devastation from the microburst storm on Oct. 13, the Arizona Historical League will close the Tempe museum from Nov. 10, 2025, to Jan. 6, 2026.
The building has severe damage to the flooring, drywall, elevators, ceiling and exterior. The total cost for repairs and upgrades is estimated at around $600,000, including expenses to replace the AV and lighting in the auditorium, in addition to flood damage and other upgrades.
“Coming out of the shutdown, we will have restored our ability to fulfill our mission of preserving Arizona’s history and provide the public with an improved museum experience,” said AHS executive director David Breeckner.
Vandalism from a trespassing occurrence prior to the storm caused damage as well and created opportunities for water to flood the area.
