I n a move to facilitate more discussion about capital project priorities, the Gilbert Town Council last week voted to delay approving design and construction contracts for the Freestone Park pickleball complex and the next phase of Desert Sky Park.
Councilman Jim Torgeson proposed tabling construction contracts related to the projects until after the council’s fall retreat.
Initially the projects were on the consent agenda, where items are consolidated and given swift approval without discussion.
But Torgeson asked pulled parks contracts totaling over $5 million from that agenda.
They included three pickleball-related contracts: a $1 million agreement with J2 Engineering and Environmental Design for architectural services; a $417,953 construction management contract with Abacus P
