In her first season in charge in 2024, Vergennes Union High School girls soccer coach Morgan Kathan worked on creating a culture and a foundation from which to build.

But the program suffered through its fourth straight losing season. Ahead of Year 2 of the Kathan regime, the former Black River star brought forward another idea to further her players' development: Have the team play in a women's league. And that included Kathan playing alongside them.
