CLEVELAND — Federal investigators are looking into a near-collision between a Southwest Airlines passenger jet and a Eurocopter medical transport helicopter that occurred near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport earlier this week.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced Friday that it is sending a team to investigate the “loss of separation event,” which took place on Oct. 29.

The incident occurred when a Boeing 737, operated by Southwest Airlines, was inbound to the airport. A helicopter was operating in the vicinity of Hopkins when they came closer than the minimum safe distance required.
