MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Mecklenburg County is investing $740,000 into local resources that are helping those impacted by the disruption in SNAP benefits.
Officials say more than 138,000 residents rely on the program in the county.
Leaders are working on having a plan in place with local community organizations to support those residents under their full benefits begin again.
With the Trump Administration only providing partial benefits this month, it's unknown if full benefits will be restored before the end of the government shutdown.
“The Agriculture Department has told the court it will use its entire emergency fund over the next month to make 50 percent payments to every SNAP recipient. That will zero out the emergency fund,” said North Carolina Attorney Genera
