TEXARKANA, Texas - Food banks in the Texarkana area are stepping up to help as cuts to SNAP benefits leave thousands of families worried about their next meal.
SNAP benefits were halted Friday. The Trump Administration announced Monday that the funding will restart but will only be half the normal payment and delayed.
Nationwide, about 42 million people rely on SNAP for food assistance. SNAP, also known as food stamps, is a federal program that provides low-income families with monthly benefits to afford healthy food.
“There's some fear out there that we'll run out of food or that our pantry partners will run out of food. And I think maybe some of that some hangover from the experiences people had during COVID,” said Kim Morris, East Texas Food Bank chief impact officer.
