CANTON, Texas — The Canton City Council unanimously voted to cease pursuit of the Grand Saline Reservoir, which was previously approved unanimously in both 2015 and 2020 by the Region D Water Development Board.

The meeting took place Oct. 31. This was the city's proposed long-term water plan, part of a state-wide water plan requested by the State of Texas Water Development Board. It originally aimed to construct a reservoir based on predicted population growth, the beginning of a measure drop in the local aquifer, and the 50 years it can take to permit and build a new reservoir in Texas, Canton Mayor Lou Ann Berry said.
