SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - With the lapse of SNAP benefits, local police say grocery stores could see an increase in thefts.
In the month of October, Sioux City Police saw a little over 100 incidents of shoplifting from grocery stores.
Police Department spokesperson Officer Gina Roberts said that number is average for Sioux City grocery stores. But that number came before SNAP benefits lapsed on Saturday, Nov. 1.
KTIV asked how many incidents of shoplifting from grocery stores have happened since November 1. Sioux City Police said ten in the two-and-a-half days.
That doesn’t mean there’s been an increase after the lapse of SNAP funds.
