DES MOINES, Iowa (Gray Media Iowa State Capital Bureau) -- A host of factors may increase the need for donations at food banks. Not all food banks have exactly the same needs for food donations, but they may share common items that they could use.
Demand had already reached record levels at some food banks, and that may only increase in the weeks ahead.
The Trump administration agreed Monday to pay only half of the eligible benefits to more than 40 million Americans who receive food assistance through SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) during the partial federal government shutdown, inflation has risen back to the level where it stood in January, and thousands of Iowans have lost jobs in agriculture and manufacturing.
