SAN ANGELO, Texas (Concho Valley Homepage) — Retired Senior U.S. District Judge Robert A. Junell, who represented San Angelo in the Texas legislature for seven terms, died on Saturday, Nov. 1.

Junell was first elected as the State Representative for District 72 in 1988 and chaired the State House appropriations committee. In 2003, Junell was confirmed as a U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Texas in Midland after being nominated by President George W. Bush. He became a senior judge in 2015.

During his time as a state representative, Junell helped get funding for the Houston Harte Expressway, and the overpass at North Bryant and Highway 87 is named in his honor, along with several other projects.
