Fort Wayne City Utilities is inviting the public to celebrate the completion of its 18-year plan to protect the city’s rivers long term.

People are invited to Promenade Park from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to celebrate the Long-Term Control Plan with a family-friendly scavenger hunt, giveaways and hot chocolate. The event will also feature interactive displays including the Deep Rock Tunnel, drilled by the tunnel boring machine MamaJo.

A news release said the event will recognize former mayors, City Council members and neighborhood and community leaders who have served on multiple task force teams.

Since 2008, the Long-Term Control Plan has reduced overflows to the rivers by 94% – or about 2 billion gallons a year, the announcement said.
